East Austin Crash Leaves One Dead

One person is dead and another hospitalized due to a crash late Thursday night.

According to Austin Police Department, the crash occurred around 11:00 p.m.  at the 4100 block of East 51st Street.  First officers on scene found a single vehicle that had left the roadway and crashed into the tree line.

The passenger had exited the vehicle but the driver was pinned in.

Austin-Travis County EMS transported the passenger with serious but non-life-threatening injuries to UMC Brackenridge.

The driver, reported to be a male in his mid-20’s, was declared dead on the scene.

It is unknown at this time if speed or alcohol were a determining factor in this crash.
