Fighting Back: Self Defense Tips

Updated: Monday, July 28 2014, 04:29 PM CDT

Fight back against crime and sexual assault with guidance from a nationally renowned Krav Maga instructor

Recent sexual assault allegations against two UT football players and daily reports of crime and burglaries are great reminders of the importance of self-defense.

KEYE TV’S Ashley Roberts met with one of the nation’s top Krav Maga experts, Bart Brooks, at Self Defense Austin this morning for tips. Brooks says, “it’s simple stuff”. Krav Maga comes up with solutions from an attack timeline. For instance, if an attacker is 20 feet away, a good solution might be to run away as fast as you can. If they’re holding a gun at your face, then you’ll want to take action. Brooks showed us how to do so live on KEYE TV this morning. Check out the above video.

His philosophy is to do as much damage as possible and quickly run away. Two fingers at the neck, poking at the eyes, or a kick in the groin are all good options to make the attacker “reboot” and get a chance to run away.
