Florists Ramp Up For Busy Mother's Day

Updated: Wednesday, May 8 2013, 05:35 AM CDT

Have you noticed the full parking lots at the florists?  How about the crowds gathered around the flower displays in the supermarkets?  If you don’t know what’s going on it’s because you’ve forgotten Mother’s Day is coming up this Sunday May 12.

Mother’s Day is big business for the floral industry.  This one holiday accounts for about a quarter of their annual business.  And online floral retailers say their sites will be 10 to 15 times busier than normal this week.  Bellaflor Group tells CNBC they sell more flowers on Mother’s Day than Valentine’s Day but make more money off Valentine’s Day because that holiday leans toward pricey roses where moms usually get a mix of flowers.

Pink roses are a Mother’s Day tradition.  But at King Florist we found an an infinite combination of flowers and floral accessories in modern colors to make a unique gift for your mom.

Orchids, lilies, tulips, roses, irises and calla lilies are among the most popular flower choices for Mother’s Day, according toProFlowers.com.  Hydrangeas, azaleas, chrysanthemums and blooming kalanchoe plants are amongst the best-selling plants for Mother’s Day.

If you haven’t ordered flowers for your mum yet (forgive the pun) you best get to it.  The earlier you order your flowers, the better the chance that they will have the flowers you want in stock.
