Google Map Gives Consumers A Virtual Tour Inside Businesses

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 04:13 PM CDT

You've heard of Google Maps, the online tool that can be used to show the outside of a business at street level. Now Google Maps Business Photos can take you inside that business.

Toy Joy on West 2nd Street in Austin uses the service that many businesses and consumers are unaware exists. A Google preferred photographer will come out to your place of business, take photos of every nook and cranny and then create a 360 degree virtual tour that will show up when you search for the address or business name on Google Maps.

Consumers can view that tour by clicking on a picture and use arrows to walk around the store. You can even zoom into products displayed on store shelves.

"It's been great for showing customers what Toy Joy is all about. It's a great tool to present to someone who has never seen an independent toy shop. They can go in and explore. It's just a really neat tool," says Trevor Yopp, owner of Toy Joy.

Google Maps Business Photos gives consumers an inside look into the store so they can decide if it's a place they'd like to shop at, a restaurant they'd like to dine at or a destination they'd like to visit. The cost to join the service varies depending on the size of your facility and the photographer used, but Google says rates are negotiable.
