Grand Jury Decision Expected Monday Jackson Police Shooting

Updated: Monday, May 12 2014, 07:46 AM CDT
On Monday we could find out whether or not a grand jury will indict a former Austin Police detective who shot and killed Larry Jackson Jr. last summer.

The lawyer for Jackson's family, Adam Loewy, says the grand jury will reconvene Monday, and he expects a decision. On Sunday night on Twitter, he referred to Monday as a "BIG day".

Members of the People's Task Force, a group that says "their mission is to change the city's police policies when it comes to shooting and killing unarmed citizens", say they and members of Jackson's family plan to rally outside the Travis County Courthouse on Monday night and respond to any grand jury decision. As of Monday morning, more than 70 people have RSVPed for the rally on the group's Facebook page.

On Monday morning, the DA's office won't confirm whether or not the grand jury will make a decision that day regarding indicting Charles Kleinert.

Larry Jackson's family wants Kleinert to face murder charges after a scuffle between the two while Kleinert was investigating a bank robbery ended with Jackson shot and killed. The family believes the shooting was intentional, as Jackson was shot in the back of the neck. APD says Kleinert's gun accidentally discharged.

If there's no indictment, Loewy says Jackson's family will move forward with the federal civil rights case they filed in late 2013.Grand Jury Decision Expected Monday Jackson Police Shooting
