How To Take The Perfect Selfie

Updated: Tuesday, April 1 2014, 07:18 AM CDT

Selfies are all the rage, but it's often not easy to take one you like. We're often critical of our selfies and there's a good reason for that.

Depending on the app you use, your phone will snap a photo like you would appear in the mirror. For many of us, our faces are asymmetrical and we are not used to seeing ourselves that way.

Non-selfie photos are more flattering because they flatten your face more when taken at a proper angle or distance.

To take the perfect selfie, find your best angle to decrease large facial features like your nose or chin. You can also download a photo app to tweak contrast. Good lighting is crucial and remember to look at the lens when you say cheese.

Also, never flip your camera. Using a reverse camera can diminish the quality of your photo. Another great tool is a timer so you can prop your cell phone up against something. This is especially helpful if you have shorter arms.
