Lawsuit Filed Against General Motors

Updated: Tuesday, March 25 2014, 08:12 AM CDT

A coalition of law firms announces a lawsuit against General Motors. The newly filed lawsuit claims not only did GM know 1.6 million now-recalled vehicles were equipped with faulty ignition switches, the automaker also knew the switches were placed in hazardous positions.

More than 30 accidents and 12 deaths have been blamed on the defective switches.

Attorneys filing the suit claim the position of the switches make them easy to bump and GM continues to mislead consumers by only replacing them and not changing their location. The suit was filed in a U.S. District Court in San Francisco. The auto company released a statement saying it does not respond to individual lawsuits and believes it is taking the proper steps to correct the recall.
