Local dog Trainer Shows Us How To Read Dog Body Language

Updated: Monday, July 9 2012, 08:02 AM CDT
Janice Patton is founder of ARF (A Real Friend) Dog Training here in Austin.  She specializes in addressing difficult behaviors such as separation anxiety, phobias and aggression.  She also offers a number of seminars including a body language workshop where you learn how to read your dog's body language so that you can better understand what is really going on in your dog's mind.

Today she gave us some examples:  A slow tail wag indicates a happy dog.  A fast wag means the dog may be anxious or nervous.  She also warned us to watch out for dogs that have their ears back.  They may be about to pounce.  And a dog that backs away from you is telling you that you’re getting too close.

There’s a lot more to learn.  If you’re interested in her seminars on the topic of dog body language, you’ll find all the info on her website.
