Lockdown Lifted, More Officers Patrolling After Reported Kidnapping

Updated: Tuesday, November 12 2013, 05:56 AM CST
This morning, the search is on for a possible kidnapping suspect who police believe abandoned the victim and her car in Georgetown.

Southwestern University is just half a mile from where the alleged kidnapper ditched the car, and with the incident unfolding so close to SU, university officials locked the campus down for nearly three hours, lifting it just before midnight. But this morning, campus police say they have more officers out patrolling. They're also locking all of the buildings and telling students to lock their doors as well.

The car on a dead end on Smith Creek Road is now a crime scene. Police believe it belongs to the possible kidnap victim, abandoned near Highway 29. Police say the woman tells them it all started Sunday morning in North Austin when she was taken at gunpoint, sexually assaulted, forced into her trunk, doused with bleach, then driven to that area. Right now, the suspect is described only as a black man with a star tattoo under his right eye.

Police don't know where the woman was driven and say she escaped from the trunk and contacted police just before 7 p.m. Monday. Right now, she's being treated at an area hospital.

Campus police at Southwestern University have been communicating through email and social media, and they're telling students if they have to go out, make sure there's at least one other person with them.
