Pet Owners Encouraged To Scoop The Poop

Some call Auditorium shores “stinkatorium” after pet owners failing to pick up after their dogs.

We first told you a month ago about the city taking a pro-active approach to the problem by enforcement.

If someone is caught not scooping the poop they could face a $500 fine.

Municipal court says as a January 2012 the Austin Police Department has issued four citations.

Right now they are working on educating the public about the dangers.

The city says if the waste is not properly disposed and stays on the ground; it can be a health hazard to humans and pets.

Every single day pets produce an estimated 60,000 pounds of waste around the park.

The simple solution? Biodegradable bags.

One company, Therapoo, is putting a political spin on them. You can find Romney or Obama’s face on the front of the bag. The slogan? If you think politicians are full of crap, have fun with bags.
