Prepare Your Pets For July 4th Fireworks

Updated: Monday, July 2 2012, 08:51 AM CDT
If you don't want to be up comforting your pets as they suffer through the barrage of July 4th fireworks there are steps you can take ahead of time.  Dr. Jordan Kautz at Arbor Animal Clinic suggests:

For this one day make your outside dog an inside dog.  Find a quiet place for them to spend the night and use an electric fan or play music to drown out the sound of fireworks outside.

Pheromone diffusers may also help calm your pet.  These are available is various formats from dog collars to plug-in diffusers.

And swaddling clothes such as the Thunder Shirt can comfort your pet before the fireworks go off.  The cozy garment is comfortable enough for your pet to sleep in.

Or prepare yourself to get up to comfort your pets when the fireworks go off at midnight.  On the upside, it's usually over within a few minutes.
