Round Two For Crickets In Austin

Updated: Wednesday, October 3 2012, 08:58 AM CDT

Many of us thought that our unusually high summer cricket population had come and gone.  Well, they're back!

It's round 2 for the crickets.  We chatted with Pest Management Inc. Entomologist Kim Scofield who tells us crickets have two life cycles.  The second cycle, the Fall cycle, is happening right now, typically throughout September and October, called the Fall explosion.

The cool, moist weather brings the crickets out, so our recent rains and nice weather have encouraged the crickets to come out.  Scofield tells us the largest populations will be found in rural areas.  She says places like College Station and Bastrop will have more than Austin.

Scofield reminds us that crickets are not harmful, just a nuisance and should be gone in a couple of weeks!
