State Of The Art Running Gear Showcased At Austin Event

Updated: Thursday, December 5 2013, 08:34 AM CST

Hundreds of vendors and thousands of buyers have arrived in Austin for The Running Event. Unfortunately for running enthusiasts, the event is closed to the public, but KEYE was given an exclusive preview to some of the hottest products about to hit store shelves.

Cara Griffin, Editor at Running Insight says reflective gear is all the rage. Ugiow has a blinking reflective hydration pack on display. Griffin says the company's owner invented it after having a near fatal bicycle accident. The product is expected on the market by 2014.

Asicas' is also working to make runners more visible to drivers and has added a blinking shoulder strip to a line of running jackets and Nathan is showcasing a blinking arm band and shoe cuff that hugs the back of your foot.

Other innovative products we were able to check out include the Dr. Cool Wrap. It's the first wrap that combines compression and ice. It even comes with a convenient pack that keeps your wrap ice cold when you're on long runs or evening hiking. It will be on the market in 2014.

This product is great for all athletes, not just runners. Fuel Strip Fuel Chews allows you to test your sweat with strips and it will tell you how many gummies you should eat to refuel your body.

The newest and greatest running shoes are always a hot product at The Running Event and Reebok has tapped into an underserved market, obstacle racing. Reebok's all-terrain series has a H20 drain, an obstacle grip if you're climbing and a rock guard to keep debris out of your shoe. Expect these shoes on the market by next year.

GORE-TEX needs no introduction. The company is known for its great weather-proof products. Thursday we put their water proof jackets, pants and running shoes to the test in GORE-TEX's Storm Chamber. Pouring rain and high wind speeds couldn't penetrate the gear.
