The Rules of The Road, Biking to ACL

Updated: Thursday, October 3 2013, 09:14 AM CDT

Starting Friday, thousands of visitiors and locals will be riding their bicycles to hopefully avoid a parking headache expected this weekend at Austin City Limits Music Festival. This means there will be alot of people on the road who haven't ridden a bike in sometime and don't know where they're going.

First things first the crew at Mellow Johnny's says if your riding your bike or renting one, make sure to have a bike lock. You also need a light if you're going to be riding at night. "Our motto is stay safe, stay seen," says Ted Arnold, manager at Mellow Johnny's.

Don't forget to check your bike before you ride it. Arnold suggests an ABC Quick Check. Pump your tires and make sure they hold air, make sure your bike can stop and turn your pedals to make sure things spin properly. If you do make it to ACL and there is a problem with your bike, staff with Mellow Johnny's will have mechanics on site.

Arnold suggests riding only half way to Zilker Park, where ACL is held. Park at a house or neighborhood midway and then ride the last leg. Austin is known as a bike friendly city and there are plenty of trails to choose from that will take you directly to the festival. For a bike route click on the link.
