Two Gunmen Still At Large After Weekend Robberies In NW Austin

Updated: Monday, January 20 2014, 08:06 AM CST
Two gunmen are on the loose this morning after a string of weekend robberies. The two men are accused of hitting up four locations in less than an hour on Saturday night, all near the Arboretum in Northwest Austin.

In all four robberies, police say the suspects were wearing masks and armed with guns. Police are expected to release sketches of the suspects on Monday. The first robbery reportedly happened Saturday night just before 9 at a Pizza Hut near Research Blvd. and Spicewood Springs. Next, police say the men hit a day spa just down the road near Research Blvd. and Balcones Woods. Minutes later, police say the men robbed both a cab driver and a pizza delivery man on or near Great Hills Trail.

We dug into the numbers overnight, and by all accounts, this is very unusual for the 78759 zip code. In 2012, this zip saw only eight robberies, or less than one percent of the city’s total, according to APD’s Crime Viewer web site, along with similar levels of other violent crime.

The most common crime in this area according to police is theft. This zip code saw about five percent of the city’s total.

If you think you know anything about any of these crimes, police ask you to call Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477.Two Gunmen Still At Large After Weekend Robberies In NW Austin
