Miller Advances To Runoff In Board Of Ed Race

Updated: Wednesday, May 30 2012, 04:45 AM CDT
(AP) -- Republicans Geraldine "Tincy" Miller and Gail Spurlock will advance to a runoff for the nomination for the District 12 spot on the state Board of Education.

The winner of the runoff will face the Democratic nominee in the general election Nov. 6.

Miller, of Dallas, first began serving on the state board in 1984. She was defeated in the primary in 2010. Spurlock, of Richardson, does consulting work in areas including management and technical writing.

All 15 board spots are up for re-election following redistricting last year. District 12 includes Collin County and part of Dallas County.

The board's responsibilities include establishing the state's public school curriculum, approving textbooks and managing the state's permanent school fund. Miller Advances To Runoff In Board Of Ed Race
