Congress Approves Benefits For Military Families

Updated: Thursday, October 10 2013, 02:15 PM CDT

The Senate has joined the House in approving a measure that would provide benefits for the families of fallen troops.

Pentagon officials have faced outrage over the suspension of those payments during the partial government shutdown.

The Pentagon typically pays out $100,000 within three days of the death of a service member.

Since the shutdown began last Tuesday, 29 members of the military have died on active duty.
