Lloyd Doggett Wins Primary Handily

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 05:13 PM CDT

Redistricting played a big role in the new U.S. House District 35 race. The district runs from Downtown Austin to Downtown San Antonio.

It was expected to be a close match-up between incumbent Lloyd Doggett, from Austin, and Bexar County Tax Assessor Sylvia Romo of San Antonio.

But Romo conceded to Doggett Tuesday evening as his lead became insurmountable.

Romo was vying to become the first Hispanic woman sent to congress from Texas. The former member of the Texas House will keep her job as Bexar County tax assessor.Lloyd Doggett Wins Primary Handily
