Republicans Will Face Off In Statewide Lt. Governor Debate Tonight

Updated: Monday, January 27 2014, 01:30 PM CST

The four Republicans running for lieutenant governor will face off in debate that will be broadcast across Texas tonight.

It's the first statewide showcase featuring incumbent David Dewhurst, State Sen. Dan Patrick, Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, and Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples.

The four-way race has been broiling for months even though it's largely stayed off the radar for most voters. Tonight provides the best opportunity so far for each candidate to shade in distinguishing contours in an otherwise crowded field where there is a general consensus on most bread and butter conservative issues.

Dallas' PBS affiliate KERA is hosting tonight's debate but other radio and television stations will stream it live.
