Updated: Monday, May 12 2014, 05:48 PM CDT

There was disappointment Monday For those expecting to see a fiery debate between the Republican runoff candidates in the race for Texas Lieutenant Governor.

Texas Senator Dan Patrick backed out of Monday's debate in Round Rock hosted by the Williamson County Republican Women.

His campaign tells us Patrick's wife got sick on the trip from Houston.

Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst still attended and answered questions.

With just one week until early voting starts people were asking what separates the two candidates.

"I have proved that I can help grow our economy and make it attractive for people to create jobs in good times and in bad and I want to keep Texas number one," Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst said.

But without hearing what Senator Dan Patrick had to say many of these voters tell us they still left the event undecided.

"I want somebody that is going to be honest. We have too many politicians that tell you something in here then they vote a different way. I want somebody who will follow through even when the odds are against him or her, that's what I want," voter Felipe Alonso said.

The primary runoff is Tuesday, May 27.
