But early votes are in.

UPDATE 5:00 a.m.: With 100 percent of the Travis Co.

County Judge race. In the County Commission, Pct. 2 race, Brigid Shea
has 66 percent, Richard Jung 19 percent and Garry Brown 14 percent.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Travis County Democrats are hoping a win in Tuesday's primary for County Judge will mean a Democrat will continue to head the Commissioners Court come November.

The County Judge heads the Commissioners Court and is elected at large, not in districts like the commissioners. They are responsible for setting the tax rate and budget, which is about $850 million. The judge also signs every contract that passes through the county.

This is the first hard fought Democratic primary battle for County Judge since 1998 when current County Judge Sam Biscoe ran and won. Biscoe is now retiring.

Andy Brown -- a former chairman of the Travis County Democratic Party-- has outpaced Sarah Eckhardt -- Pct. 2 Commissioner -- in both fundraising and endorsements.

Mike McNamara is running unopposed in the Republican primary.

Eckhart's decision to run for County Judge left her current position open. Former Mayor Bruce Todd was appointed to fill it when Eckhart stepped down, but he is not running for the job.

The front runner is Brigid Shea, co-founder of the Save our Springs Coalition and a former Austin City Council Member. The other candidates are Garry Brown, who worked as an aide to past commissioners, and Richard Jung, a lawyer and community activist.

We'll update this story as we learn the election results.
