Austin Actress Talks About Life "Under The Dome"

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 05:15 PM CDT

Beth Broderick is best known for her role as Aunt Zelda on the television show, Sabrina the Teenage Witch. More recently, she played Evangeline Lilly's mother on Lost. Now, she's acting in another critically acclaimed drama, CBS's Under the Dome.

Broderick was confident the show would be a hit. "I just had a great feeling about it and I've worked with this team before. I did Lost with them and so I knew they were the highest caliber you could get in the world of television. The cast is amazing, the scripts are great and they aren't kidding with the special effects! "

She says the show resonates with viewers because everyone can relate to the town and the people in the town. "You know the characters are based on very realistic models of people that inhabit the towns all across America. It's a really study of human nature. When there is no way out, who is going to lead?  Who is going to help and who is going to hurt?"

Broderick originally auditioned for a different role on Under the Dome, but is delighted to play Rose, who runs the town's only diner.

She says, "Rose is very deep and very loving. She's mature and that is nice. I'm a mature woman and it's nice to have a mature female character on national television! What mature women bring to communities, we don't see it often enough."

Off screen, Broderick brings her time and talents to a wide range of causes and has immersed herself in the Austin community, where she's lived for three years. "I'm in love with the town and I hope that I have things that I can offer as an activist as a fundraiser. I have a lot of deep experience. So, I always figure that when someone calls me for help in a situation, I think of it as God calling. I answer, if I possibly can."

Broderick's currently involved, with other members of the Austin theater community, raising money for a young actor whose been fighting malignant melanoma. Here's a link to more information: http://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/matney-vs-cancer-fight-/65051.
