Daniel: 'Can I Get Lethal Injection?'; Revealed In Murder Trial

Updated: Wednesday, February 19 2014, 01:29 PM CST

***The attached video's audio is muffled and difficult to hear. Portions of the audio have been captioned.***

The man accused of killing an Austin police officer in 2012 said in the back of the patrol car, "At least I get free food and don't have to work again."

This is second day of the capital murder trial of Brandon Daniel. He is charged in the murder of Officer Jaime Padron in April 2012. Padron was shot trying to subdue Daniel at a North Austin Walmart.

The prosecution showed video recorded while Daniel was in the backseat of the patrol car after he was arrested (attached above).

The prosecutor highlighted several statements from Daniel:

-- "Can I get the lethal injection? Is that possible?"

-- "I'll blast one of you guys," referring to two officers in the car.

-- "You are p*ssed caused I capped one your other friends?" Then he said, "I'm glad he's dead."

Padron's family left the courtroom while the dash camera video was played. Daniel's sister cried as she watched it.
