Lawyers For Greg Kelley File Motion For Retrial

Updated: Wednesday, August 13 2014, 03:56 PM CDT

Attorneys for Greg Kelley, the former Leander High School football star sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child, have filed a motion for a retrial.

Last month through a sentencing deal Kelley received 25 years behind bars for molesting a young boy at an in-home daycare center he was staying at.

As part of the agreement, Kelley gave up his right to an appeal and must register as a sex offender.

Supporters of Kelley contend everyone from Cedar Park Police, to the Williamson County District Attorney have handled this case wrong.

There have been questions about why Kelley would accept 25 years without a chance for appeal.  His family said if he accepted a 10 year deferred plea deal, he would be pleading guilty to the charge, on top of having to register as a sex offender.  They said he'd rather spend 25 years in prison, than admit to a crime he says he did not commit.

We will continue to follow this developing story.
