Paul Sadler in Uphill Race
Updated: Thursday, September 27 2012, 10:45 PM CDT
Paul Sadler is waging an uphill battle to win your vote for U.S. Senate. No Texas Democrat has been elected to statewide office in almost 20 years.
Sadler is running on his record. He says, “I want people to know that when I served in the Texas Legislature my responsibility was taking care of your children. I co-authored the Education code. I served 6 terms and was named 1 of the 10 best legislators during 4 of those terms.”
Sadler was a powerful player in the Texas Legislature. But that was 10 years ago. Now, he's up against powerful PAC money backing his opponent, Republican Ted Cruz.
Sadler says, “He’s as about as far right as a Senate candidate can be. Whether you are talking about Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid or the structure of government itself.”
Sadler says his own views on key issues such as healthcare and entitlements better represent the average Texan. “I absolutely support Social Security and Medicare and the current entitlement benefit package. We are going to have to do some things to ensure the funding for them. I’m not afraid of those issues.”
He adds, “On healthcare, I support the Affordable Care Act. It’s not a perfect bill. There are things about it we can change and make better. But the key principles are very good for you and me as human beings.”
Sadler is taking a grass roots approach to spreading his message and raising money. He knows he's the underdog in the race against a rising star in the Republican Party.
He’s still determined to break the Republican winning streak and return a U.S. Senate seat to the Democrats.
