Over the Edge

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 05:15 PM CDT
When I was 18 I did something called the "Skycoaster" – you are strapped into a device, pulled back up in the air at a 90 degree angle, then shot back down, coming out the other side at 90 degrees.  I think I was really doing it to prove I was cool – it was with some work people I was just getting to know.

I was an idiot (hey, I was 18).

Anyway, I survived in one piece so I guess it all worked out.  13 years later that idiotic decision did finally paid some dividends.

I had the chance to go rappelling off a downtown Austin building – and I jumped (not literally) at it.

It also helped knowing I was doing this for a great cause.

The  Make-A-Wish Foundation held its "Austin Over the Edge" event over the weekend.  Kids with life-threatening illnesses have their wishes granted through Make-A-Wish.

And in the end, we all know that's what this is all about – helping make children's dreams come true. Over the Edge
