$12 Million TX Lottery Prize Goes Unclaimed

Updated: Monday, June 30 2014, 08:49 PM CDT
$12 million is being donated to Texas schools after a winning lottery ticket goes unclaimed.

The winning ticket was sold at a gas station in League City on January 1st.

Monday marked the 180th day to claim the ticket, so by Texas law the ticket holder forfeited their claim to the prize money. The gas station that sold the ticket received their one-percent stake, which was approximately $121,385.

The Lottery Commission urged people to check everywhere in hopes of finding the winning ticket, but no one came forward. The Foundation School Fund will now receive the total earnings.

Unclaimed tickets aren't that uncommon; since 1995 more than $837 million in lottery winnings have gone unclaimed.  $12 Million TX Lottery Prize Goes Unclaimed
