AISD School Zone Enforcement in Full Swing

Updated: Monday, August 25 2014, 09:52 AM CDT

Patrol officers honing in on school zone cell phone users, speeders

The Austin Police Department is aggressively enforcing school zone laws starting today. The initiative will be pushed hard throughout the week. This morning Sergeant Leslie Kyle and his motorcycle team worked the Williams Elementary School school zone on South 1st Street. KEYE TV saw multiple traffic stops with at least three drivers getting pulled over in a five minute time frame.

Sergeant Kyle says the biggest problems are speeding and cell phone users. Signs and flashing lights are posted in school zones and officers will be enforcing them. School zone law breakers could face up to a $200 fine for using a cell phone, and an even heftier fine for speeding.
