ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Bringing Local Lou Gehrig's Awareness

Updated: Tuesday, August 19 2014, 09:15 AM CDT

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge continues its viral whirlwind; raising awareness and money for Lou Gehrig's disease

ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is an always fatal motor neuron disease that robs you of your ability to eat, speak, move, and eventually breath. Veterans are twice as likely to be diagnosed with the disease and there is currently no cause or cure.

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is helping to bring visibilty and a voice to those affected by the dehabilitating disease. ALS Association Texas Chapter says the challenge is locally making an impact. Many families and those diagnosed with Lou Gehrig are now reaching out and feeling heard.

Once you're challenged, you have 24 hours to take it, record it, and challenge others. Or you can donate $100. Of course, you can always do both.

The ALS Association is a great resource for those diagnosed with ALS, helping them receive medical equipment and devise a course of action to endure the disease.

The organization has their biggest annual event coming up on October 18th. You can build a team and sign up now. Details HERE.
