APD Responds To Bomb Threat At Convention Center

The Austin Police Department evacuated 5,000 people from the Austin Convention Center after a suspicious bomb threat call around 5:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.

The area immediately around the center was blocked off.

The investigation continued for about three hours until police determined the threat was "non-credible" and opened the area about 8:40 p.m. Friday night.

Police tell KEYE TV the evacuations were made for "safety reasons."

The threat call is under investigation.
