Austin Heats Up With Hot Sauce Festival

Updated: Sunday, August 24 2014, 06:48 PM CDT

What better thing to do on a hot day in Texas than taste-test hot sauce!

Austinites packed the Hot Sauce Festival in south Austin today.

It's known as the largest festival of its kind in the world, with more than 350 salsa entries.

It's also how the Capital Area Food Bank collects food for Central Texans in need.

"This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year, it helps us meet the need in Central Texas. We have about 46,000 people each week that we feed,” said Capital Area Food Bank’s Kathy Green

Admission was free to those who brought items for the Capital Area Food Bank.

The organization expects to collect at least 15,000 meals from the festival.
