Cedar Park Breaks Ground On New Construction Project

Updated: Tuesday, August 26 2014, 07:21 PM CDT
Traffic stacks up on FM 1431 in Cedar Park every morning, which you can see clearly as city leaders broke ground today on a new construction project at Toro Grande Blvd.

Matt Powell, Cedar Park Mayor says, "It's a little bit of an out of the box solution, it's not just doing the same darn thing to fight traffic."

Over the next 16 months crews will expand and transform this intersection into what's known as a continuous flow intersection.
It's the biggest construction project Cedar Park has ever taken on.

Powell says, "Not only is it an expansion of 1431, which is the major east west corridor, not only for commuting but for economic development. Our hospital, shopping, entertainment are right on this road."

Cedar Park residents have become very accustomed to these orange barrels and sitting in traffic, with more than 70-thousand cars traveling 1431 each day.

Leslie Matthews, a Cedar Park Resident says. "We moved out here 12 years ago and there was nothing, it was quiet and quick. Took 35 minutes to get downtown Austin."

The project will cost 22 million dollars.

TxDOT and Williamson County are also chipping in.
