City of Austin Reports 595 Job Openings

Updated: Wednesday, June 11 2014, 05:49 PM CDT

Looking for a job? There are 595 job openings for the City of Austin. That equals about $41 million in salaries.

Believe it or not, that number is less than last year.

Ed VanEnnoo the Deputy CFO for the City of Austin says the vacancy rate is also less than Dallas, Houston or San Antonio. "What we find is they're usually around 7-12 percent and so 6.7 percent I feel like we're doing a pretty good job," said VanEnnoo.

VanEnnoo says the city budgets about $36 million annually for anticipated savings which does help lower the budget and helps keep the tax rate down.

The city has more than 12,000 authorized positions, not including public safety jobs.

At the end of May, Austin Police had 78 officer openings. The fire department reported 71.
