Downtown Austin Businesses Bracing For President Obama Visit

Updated: Wednesday, July 9 2014, 06:46 PM CDT

President Barack Obama's visit to Austin Wednesday and Thursday means major disruptions wherever the motorcade goes. It has businesses near the Paramount Theatre in Downtown Austin bracing for the impact.

President Obama's speech is scheduled during the noon hour Thursday.

The idea of a bustling crowd strutting red, white and blue has some shops adding staff.

"With the president being here, I can only imagine our lines will be wrapped around the building. It will be nerve wracking," said Lucas Abbott with the food trailer Kebabalicious.

Since the speech is on the heels of lunchtime, the food truck is even thinking about crafting Obama fries or a Obama-kebab.

"You can see it from right there. It's going to be awesome," said Abbott.

For those working the 9 to 5 the view from their office will make the day a little more interesting.

"I will have my phone out. I might do a little recording. You might see it on Facebook or Instagram," said Stephanie Seufert.

Seufert works at Stars in Your Eyes Optical across from the theatre. She has a front row seat to the action.

"We will stop, go to the window and check it out. A couple years ago I saw Jared Leto," said Seufert.

But she thinks it will be slow in the office because of the traffic nightmare.

Still, one day and counting until the actual event, the biggest question remains: where is President Obama going to eat?

"I would have to say Franklin Barbeque because it's an iconic place," Jeff Brenot said.

Matt Lanier said, "If he's looking for some good food, he needs to go to Franklin or La Barbeque."

That being said we reached out to Franklin Barbeque and the owner admits he wouldn't let Kanye West cut the line during the X Games, for the president he says he might consider it.

Until Thursday we won't know exactly where President Obama will feast.

But on Wednesday, Eater Austin confirmed he will be served the El Presidente from Fresa's Chicken at Robert Rodriguez's fundraising event.
