DPS Increases Reward For Murder Fugitive

Updated: Tuesday, July 1 2014, 03:58 PM CDT

The reward for tips leading to the arrest for a man wanted for a San Antonio stabbing death has been increased to $17,500, officials say.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Freddie Alaniz, 34, is wanted for murder, sexual assault of a child and possession of marijuana.

Troopers say in February of 2006 Alaniz was arrested for aggravated assault in San Antonio for allegedly stabbing a man during a fight -- but he made bail and fled. The victim later died as a result of his injuries.

Alaniz's arrest warrant for sexual assault of a child stems from a 2006 incident in Zavala County, troopers say.

Alaniz has ties to several Texas towns, including La Pryor (Zavala County), George West (Live Oak County) and Beaumont, as well as Veracruz, Mexico. His criminal history includes assault causing bodily injury, resisting arrest and driving while intoxicated.

He is described as 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs approximately 120 pounds; however, his appearance may have significantly changed (above photo is from 2006). He has tattoos on his left hand, legs, right arm and shoulder.

To be eligible for the cash rewards, there are four different ways to provide anonymous tips:

Call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477).

Text the letters DPS -- followed by your tip -- to 274637 (CRIMES) from your cell phone.

Submit a web tip through the DPS website by selecting the fugitive you have information about, and then clicking on the link under their picture.

Submit a Facebook tip at http://www.facebook.com/texas10mostwanted by clicking the "SUBMIT A TIP" link (under the "About" section).
