Female Travis Co. Inmate Dies While in Custody

A Travis County inmate died while in custody early Thursday morning.

According to TCSO officials, at 4:34 a.m., a Corrections Officer found Suzanna Skripkina, 25, unresponsive in her cell during a routine visual check at the Travis County Jail. Medical Staff was notified along with Austin/Travis County EMS. The Austin Fire Department also responded.

Despite their efforts the inmate, Skripkina was pronounced deceased at 5:24am.

Officials say Skripkina had been arrested by the Austin Police Department on June 25, 2014 at 6:05 p.m., for a Community Court Warrant on a Class C Misdemeanor, City Ordinance Violation.

The Travis County Major Crimes Unit along with the Internal Affairs Unit is investigating this case with the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office, which is common practice in Death in Custody cases.

Since the death occurred within 24 hours of the arrest, the Austin Police Department is investigating as well.

While the ME’s Office report is not complete Sheriff’s Detectives say that there is no evidence of criminal activity and the cause of death appears to be due to medical issues.
