Updated: Thursday, June 26 2014, 06:38 PM CDT

5 p.m. UPDATE: Investigators say they became aware of the victim's living conditions after he was arrested for allegedly breaking into a neighbor's home.

The 22-year old man was allegedly kept locked away six days at a time on a sprawling property in Dripping Springs.

According to an arrest affidavit, Dane and Jenifer Thyssen kept their 22-year-old adopted son locked in the garage apartment for at least four years.

Each week the couple would reportedly deliver a package of food to their son.  If he ran out of food, he had to wait until next week to eat.  Court documents go on to say the garage was equipped with a toilet, sink refrigerator and microwave.

An attorney representing the couple says the Thyssen's kept their son locked in the garage for the public's safety.
