Investigation Continues Into Man Accused Of Georgetown Church Sexual Assault

Updated: Thursday, August 21 2014, 07:38 AM CDT
Disturbing allegations of sexual assault at a Georgetown church. Williamson County Sheriff's Office says Marcos Azael Herrera, 23, who they're calling a "preacher", sexually assaulted a four-year-old girl.

On Thursday, Herrera is sitting in jail facing $400,000 worth of bonds for the charges listed in the affidavit. The alleged victim says the crimes happened on the church's property in 2009. The challenge for Williamson County Sheriff's Office: figure out if any other children were harmed.

According to the affidavit, Herrera, who was named a preacher by the pastor at the Iglesia Evangelical Cristiana Espiritual Church, sexually assaulted the then-four-year-old girl when he was 17. On August 14 the girl reportedly told the staff at the Williamson County Children Advocacy Center. Herrera was booked into jail the next day. A church member told KEYETV off camera that when the allegations came out Herrera was excommunicated from the church. They also tell us "preacher" was an unofficial title.

County records posted online early Thursday showed Herrera's first court date is September 3, and that his charges are first degree felonies. If convicted, those typically carry 5-99 years in prison.
