K9 Unit Busts Former Police Officer In Fayette County

Updated: Monday, July 28 2014, 10:10 AM CDT

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported on Friday afternoon a former Police Officer was arrested for allegedly attempting to transport drugs through Fayette County.

Canine Deputy Randy Thumann and his partner "Lobos" were on patrol on I-10 near Flatonia whey they stopped a vehicle heading eastbound toward Houston.

Thumann noticed the driver acting suspiciously and was off route from where he was supposed to be going. Thumann conducted a voluntary search of the vehicle. He found several fake compartments in the rear concealing contraband.

Officials say numerous bundles of marijuana were found in a sealed appliance box in the bed of the truck. The 100 plus pounds of marijuana along with the 2012 Ford F150 Crew Cab pickup were seized and the subject was arrested and taken to the Fayette County Justice Center.

Eirberto Briceno had his law enforcement license and other law enforcement equipment including an officer nameplate, holster and ammunition with him.

Briceno worked for two different police departments in the Rio Grande Valley from 2010 to 2013.

He was arrested and charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana. He is being held on a $100, 000 bond.
