Man Charged With Threatning KLBJ Staff Arrested

Updated: Thursday, July 3 2014, 05:25 PM CDT
An Austin man was charged after police said he made threats against KLBJ-FM staff.

Scott Jeremy Schuster, 38, was arrested at an apartment complex in South Austin around 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Hector Gomez oversees the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force that arrested Schuster. He said the task force set-up overnight surveillance, and when Schuster returned home they made the arrest.

"In a free society we have to take these threats very serious, and act upon them very seriously, and you have to be held accountable for what you say," Gomez said. "It's a collaborative effort, so it's man power intensive. We have to watch as with any fugitive we go after."

According to the police report, KLBJ staff first encountered Schuster on June 10 after he posted derogatory comments on Facebook about a female contest winner.

Host Dale Dudley of the "Bob and Dudley" morning show invited Schuster on-air to talk about the remarks he made about the woman.

The police report stated Schuester agreed, and the conversation between the host and Schuster became heated at one point. However, toward the end of the on-air exchange the tension calmed down to a cordial manner.

The report also said after their talk, Schuster then posted a picture of an assault rifle and commented "Do you know what happened to Alan Berg?" Police said it was a reference to the Denver radio personality who was murdered after speaking-out against white supremacists.

A short time later, the report said Schuster sent more threatening messages, including one that read:

"I (explicative) hate you guys so much. It's going to be a bloodbath. Maybe even more. I smell gunpowder. I smell assassination. Thank Dale. I don’t even capitalize his name."

Police charged Schuster with making a terroristic threat, a third-degree felony with a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
Schuster’s bail has been set at $50,000.Man Charged With Threatning KLBJ Staff Arrested
