Man Killed In South Austin Crash Identified

Updated: Monday, August 25 2014, 04:29 PM CDT

Police have identified the man that was killed early Sunday morning in South Austin after slamming his truck into two vehicles from behind on South Congress Avenue.

The crash happened at around 5:50 a.m. at the intersection of South Congress Avenue and Woodward Street, just north of Ben White Boulevard.

Investigators say a gray 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 truck and a red 2013 Hyundai Sonata four-door were stopped side by side for a red traffic signal at the intersection, waiting to go northbound, when a brown 1994 GMC 1500 truck, straddling two lanes, struck them from behind.

The driver of the GMC truck -- identified as 33-year-old Michael Wayne Dunn Jr. -- was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of the Dodge and Hyundai were transported to the University Medical Center Brackenridge with non-life threatening injuries, police say.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-8164.

This is Austin's 35th fatal traffic crash and the 42nd fatality of 2014. At this time in 2013, there were 52 fatality crashes and 53 fatalities.
