Man Survives Fredericksburg Plane Crash

Updated: Thursday, August 21 2014, 05:41 PM CDT

A man crashed his plane at a Fredericksburg airport Thursday afternoon and survived, officials say.

It happened at around 2:40 p.m. at the Gillespie County Airport.

The Fredericksburg Police Department says a small single engine plane was attempting to land in a strong crosswind when it was pushed off course.

Investigators say the plane flipped, and came to rest upside down with the pilot -- identified as 64-year-old old Michael Herder of Roanoke, Texas -- trapped inside.

Emergency crews were able to pull him from the plane and he was transferred to a local hospital in stable condition, officials say.
