Peach Season Now In Full Swing

Updated: Monday, June 23 2014, 11:23 AM CDT
Peach stands are popping up alongside roads across Central Texas. The peach harvest started mid-May and will run through middle to late part of August.

Jamey Vogel is the owner of Vogel Orchard and the President of the Hill Country Fruit Council. Vogel says this year is the best harvest we’ve had in Central Texas since 2010.

“We have a really good crop. We had great weather conditions and the recent rains have been awesome for the peach crop so we’re in good shape now,” Vogel said. “Las year we had almost a total wipeout of our crop from late freezes and you know, we’re picking as much each day as we did all last year. The rain has helped with the flavor and all that.”

Many of the farms also sell goods made from their peaches like peach jam and peach hot sauce.
