Police: Horseshoe Bay Double-Stabbing Started As Burglary Attempt

Updated: Wednesday, June 11 2014, 04:36 PM CDT

Police say the man who stabbed two women at a Horseshoe Bay home in Burnet County on Tuesday was attempting a burglary when he was confronted by the victims.

It happened just after noon at a home in the 100 block of Harbor Light in Horseshoe Bay.

Investigators say 34-year-old Johnathan Kirk (pictured), of Bastrop, was doing outside construction work at the home when he entered it with the intent to commit a burglary.

But he was unaware of the presence of the victims -- identified as Gabriele Legeland, 41, and Heike Schlieker, 48 -- and when he was confronted he attacked them both.

Police say Kirk then fled the area and went to his home in Bastrop.  Investigators were able to find a cell phone number for him and determined his location through 'pinging' his phone.

Bastrop authorities made contact with him and investigators found bloody clothing along with a knife that police say may have been used in the attack.

He has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, a second degree felony.

Both of the victims are from Germany and were visiting the family who live at the home where the attack occurred, police say.

One of the women is still in very serious condition.
