Reward Offered For Austin Bike Thief

Updated: Friday, August 22 2014, 03:54 PM CDT

Austin police are asking for your help in finding the person going around town stealing high-end bikes. And the bike community is offering a $3,000 reward for tips that lead to his arrest.

So far investigators say 115 bicycles have been stolen -- totaling $400,000 in theft.

We're told the thefts stopped in July but started up again in North Central and Southwest Austin after thousands of people posted about the thefts online.

"It was sent out nationally and we didn't get anything, we have not been able to identify this person, and so we're re-appealing to the public," says Detective Evonne McGuire with the Austin Police Department.

Police now have a vague description of the suspect's vehicle -- they believe it's a dark-colored SUV or pickup.

Investigators say the bicycle community put together a reward of up to $3,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.

Police say if you see the suspect do not to make contact with him, call 911 immediately.
