San Marcos Goes Smoke Free Today

Updated: Sunday, June 1 2014, 06:08 PM CDT

San Marcos joins the list of nine Texas cities that have banned smoking from public places.

The City Council passed the ordinance on October 2, 2013.

E-cigarettes are also included in the definition of smoking.

The ordinance allows for businesses to provide outdoor smoking areas in restaurants, lounges and bars.  Smoking is also permitted inside tobacco and vape shops.

Fines start at $200 for the first offense and up to $2,000 for the third offense and subsequent offenses.
