Updated: Monday, June 23 2014, 04:18 PM CDT
San Marcos Police are seeking the public’s assistance to help identify a suspect who attempted to sexually assault a child late last night.

The incident was reported to police at 11:33 p.m. on Thursday, June 19 in the 900 block of Sycamore Street in San Marcos.

Police say a 12-year-old girl went outside of her house to walk her puppy when she was approached by a male between 5’9” and 5’11,” with a thin but fit build, with no facial hair.

He was described as having a crew cut style haircut that was split down the middle of his head and colored brown on one side and blond on the other. He was wearing light colored shorts, a dark shirt and a black leather jacket. According to the victim, the suspect smelled like beer.

Police say the suspect grabbed the victim and forced her into the back yard while fondling her breasts, according to Sgt. Mike Wellman of the San Marcos Police Department.  While the male was doing this, police say, he asked the girl to perform oral sex on him.

An adult family member went outside to check on the child and observed the suspect with the girl. The family member yelled at the suspect, who then ran away.

Attempted aggravated sexual assault of a child is a second-degree felony punishable by 2-20 years in jail and a fine up to $10,000.
