Suspicious Man Scaring South Austin Residents

Updated: Tuesday, August 19 2014, 03:25 PM CDT

UPDATE: The incidents are happening on the following streets and intersections: William Cannon and Manchaca, Cameron Loop, South 1st St. and Ben White, Sea Jay, and a lot in the 78748 and 78745 zip codes.

Ricardo Santos is all worked up about a man terrorizing his South Austin neighborhood.

"I believe he said he needed gas money cause he broke down the road, but it was weird, it didn't feel right," said Santos.

In every instance the unidentified guy bangs on the front door startling the homeowner sleeping inside.  His ever-changing story has neighbors worried he's up to no good -- like telling Santos' neighbor he needed to check on the alarm.

"He came by late at night saying security but that neighbor doesn't have a security system," added Santos.

The odd encounters sparking a post on Reddit.  As of Monday there were over 100 comments, many detailing run-ins with the suspicious character.  Austin Police were unaware of the issue until KEYE TV got involved.

"Friday we were contacted by you guys about something that was posted on Reddit," said Senior Police Officer Vaneza Bremner.

Bremner urged people to contact police so cops can be on the lookout for the suspicious man -- described as being in his late 20s to early 30s, bald with tattoos.

"Don't open the door if you don't know who it is.  Call 911 and tell the person you're calling 911 as you're doing it," added Bremner.

Santos plans to take it a step further. He's got his cell phone in his pocket ready to snap a couple pictures of the guy if and when he makes a return visit.

"I feel a little unsafe, it makes me feel worried more paranoid," said Santos.
