Texas Fisherman Reels In A 809 Pound Shark

Updated: Tuesday, August 5 2014, 04:25 PM CDT
PORT ARANSAS-- A fisherman from San Antonio caught one massively huge shark off the coast of the Texas gulf coast over the weekend.

Ryan Spring says he fought the beast for more than 8 hours. He eventually reeled in the Tiger Shark with his father's help.

The shark weighed in at about 809 pounds and was about 12'7" long.

"He's just ginormous, I've never seen something like that, maybe on Jaws.   [He was] dragging the boat around in circles, all over the place.  Couple of hours later, oh he's going to give up, but he kept on going. I didn't think he was ever going to give up," said Spring.

This isn't even the biggest shark ever caught in Port Aransas, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife State Department records.

The biggest was a 13.5' long and weighed more than 1100 pounds. That shark was caught in 1992. Texas Fisherman Reels In A 809 Pound Shark
