Texas Group Forms Special Needs Cheer Squad

Updated: Monday, August 18 2014, 11:02 AM CDT
TYLER, TX-- There's a new cheerleading squad in Texas and they're ready to take on the competition.

"Inspire Twisters" are a group of special needs children learning to cheer.

The squad held their first practice on Sunday.

Special needs children came from across East Texas to participate.

One mother explains what this means for her daughter.  "She really can't participate in the cheerleading programs so there's a lot of things she can't participate in, but this is going to be amazing for her and for us because we can cheer her on. She wants to be a cheerleader. She wouldn't in the real world, but this is a way for her to be able to participate and feel just as awesome as the other cheerleaders would be."

The squad will compete as far away as Dallas and will have weekly practices just like any other cheerleading squad.

"Inspire Twisters" is a non-profit group and is raising money to cover uniform costs and travel fees. Texas Group Forms Special Needs Cheer Squad
